Not sure your school calls it “CogAT”?

CogAT is one of several cognitive ability tests districts use for gifted screening, alongside OLSAT and NNAT. Check your school's letter or website for the exact name — this course is built specifically for the CogAT, so the reasoning skills your child practices here map directly to it.

Preparing for a Gifted & Talented program?

CogAT scores are one of the most common factors districts use to identify students for advanced programs — whatever your district happens to call theirs.

Gifted & Talented (GT) Talented and Gifted (TAG) GATE Advanced Learning Highly Capable Advanced Academics

The CogAT measures reasoning ability across three areas — verbal, quantitative, and nonverbal — not what a child has memorized in school. Practicing the kinds of patterns and problems it uses can help your child walk in feeling calm, familiar, and ready to think clearly under time pressure.

Preparation can help your child feel confident and ready — it does not guarantee a specific score, eligibility, admission, or placement in any program.

Everything the CogAT tests, taught properly

Nine question types, organized the same way the CogAT itself is structured — across all three batteries. In total, the course includes 19 video lessons and 9 self-check tests.

CogAT testing usually happens in the fall

Many districts open registration or referral windows months before test day. The earlier your child practices, the more comfortable they'll feel walking in.

Frequently asked questions

Scores & eligibility

What score does my child need to qualify for a gifted program?

Qualifying scores vary by district and program — many look for a high percentile rank, but the exact cutoff is set locally. We can't guarantee a specific score, eligibility, or admission; our course focuses on building the reasoning skills the test measures.

Is the CogAT hard for young children?

The format can feel unfamiliar the first time — timed, multiple batteries, and picture-based reasoning rather than school content. That unfamiliarity is exactly what practice addresses.

The test itself

What's the difference between CogAT Form 7 and Form 8?

Form 7 and Form 8 are different official editions of the test with updated item sets; the underlying reasoning skills tested are the same, and our lessons apply to both.

How long does my child need to prepare?

It depends on your test date and your child's comfort with the format — many families start several weeks to a couple of months ahead. Your 90 days of access gives plenty of room to go at your own pace.
